Q: How do you benchmark your
reviews?
A:
Good question. To be honest, I don't really. All of those percentages?
Yeah, those are basically all subjective and estimated. They have no
actual numerical data to back them up. Even the overall rating is not
some kind of square-rooted average. To put it in perspective, take note
that I consider Metallica to be the best band ever conceived (hands
down), and I consider ..And Justice for All to be the most
catchy, riffy, badass album ever. Knowing this, you can see my standard.
Giving an album an 100% in a particular category does not by any means
make it perfect, just that to my ears, there are no inherent flaws with
it. When it all comes down to it, everything here is an opinion and
based on personal preference
Q: Why is "Band X" (or Album X)
not in your reviews/database?
A:
One has to remember that my "website" is little more than a glorified
blog - a forum for my own view. Keeping that in mind, I only plan on
posting information about bands that I have an opinion about (good or
bad) and that I feel inspired to write about. For example, even though
Motley Crue was a popular rock band, I have listened to little of
them and probably wont any time soon, and as such, you won't see them
here. The Riff Repository more or less serves to educate people
on new/little heard of bands and/or give my own opinionated take on more
popular ones and is not a catch-all metal site. For that, please visit
the spectacular
Metal Archives. Q:
Are you endorsed by anybody?
A:
Not as of yet. While I find my own opinion
to be very valuable, as should you, not everyone has been enlightened by
the material here at The Riff Repository. But hey, you can
do your part by spreading the word to your friends! In all seriousness,
I do this site merely for my own amusement, for non-profit, on a free
webserver.
Q: Are the pictures and
graphics here yours?
A:
Largely? No. The patterns used in the
layout and the banner are of my creation. However, I use all album
covers, logos, and pictures of the artists under fair-use laws and do
not intend to infringe on any copyrights. If anyone has an issue with
this, please
contact me immediately and I will do my best to comply with your
request.
Q: Why is your site not
more "spiffy" (IE: Flash, PHP, Javascript, etc.)?
A:
Several reasons. First and foremost, I'm lazy. Yes, I have the desire,
but not the time to go out and learn any of said elements to enhance the
website. Secondly, I wanted to go with a more streamlined, basic
approach to the website. The site uses very little graphics in order to
be friendly towards those of you still on dial-up. Think of it this way:
less can be more. Although, I plan to implement a Flash jukebox element
that plays song clips later on down the road. |
